Seek First the Kingdom of God: Matthew 6:33

Matthew 6:33 (ESV) "But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

In this section of scripture, Christ tells us not to be anxious about anything: living, food, water, or clothing.  That our (Christians) focus should be on seeking out God’s kingdom and His righteousness and He (God) will take care of our needs.  I believe that this is an excellent practice and challenge for the local church, as well.  Seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness and He (God) will take care of our needs.

Grace Fellowship Church is in a unique position of claiming this verse.  Everything we do; such as, worship, teaching, GraceKids, or working behind the scenes needs to focus on seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness.  The promise of this verse is that He (Our God) will take care of the needs.  Sweet! What a blessed promise!

Hand-in-hand with this verse is the Sermon on the Mount.  Pastor Tim continues to expound on each aspect of Christ’s sermon.  This last Sunday was on purity.  In our society purity is an antiquated word.  However, God is absolutely pure and demands purity and cleansing (Hebrews 12:14).  Moreover, God expects purity of heart (Psalm 24:3, 4).  In this section of the Sermon Jesus:

  1. Confronts false purity (Matthew 15:11; 18-20)
    1. Individually – sinful desires and acts come from the heart (Matthew 15:18-20
    2. Religiously – hypocrisy, rituals, greed, pride
  2. Provides purity by His word and sacrifice (John 15:3)
    1. We (believers) are spiritually clean, made pure by the washing of Jesus Christ’s blood
    2. We need daily purity and fellowship with God

As a church seeking Christ’s righteousness, I would encourage you to visit us Sunday morning. We love to worship Christ and Pastor Tim faithfully presents God’s word.
